Dark object crossing the lunar disk

At 1:00 A.M. astronomer W. R. Brooks, director of Smith Observatory, recorded the passage of a long, dark object that crossed the disk of the moon in 3 to 4 seconds, moving west to east. It did not appear to be a bird. Brooks was observing with a two-inch telescope at magnification 44X. The object was about one third the apparent size of the moon.
